Wotts – “terminal”

Hope you’re having a calm afternoon! Wotts are back with their single “terminal”, and I’ve been spending some time with it. The Ottawa duo, made up of Jayem and Ricky 100, are known for their indie pop sound, and this track adds a smooth R&B touch to the mix. Right away, it’s clear they’re revisiting some of their earlier influences, since Jayem mentioned that Wotts actually started out as a hip hop collective. “terminal” nods to that beginning while still fitting nicely with the sound they’ve been building over the past few years.
The song focuses on the messy period after a breakup, the blurry space where you’re not sure if it’s really over or how to move forward. I liked the airport imagery Jayem talked about, because it makes sense, you go through the steps, but then you’re stuck waiting before you can move on. That idea really connected with me when listening. Production-wise, it brings together dreamy synths and groove-driven textures that make it easy to replay. It’s catchy but still carries the thoughtful perspective the band wanted to share.
If you haven’t heard Wotts before, I’d recommend checking out their last EP, “FLANK!” too, it gives some good context for where “terminal” fits in. And definitely keep an eye out for their upcoming EP “COPE”, since this release sets it up. Make sure to follow Wotts on social media so you don’t miss what’s next.
