Wetsuit – “Yarn for Future Scarves”

Wetsuit’s new album, “Yarn for Future Scarves“ is my favorite album of the week. Their previous release, “Sugar, I’m Tired“, introduced a mix of noisy bursts and tender moments, but this record digs deeper into memory and place. The group, Allison Becker, Anders Nils, Paul DeSilva, and Tess Kramer, recorded it in Asheville with Alex Farrar, and it’s clear they wanted to capture the intensity of their live shows while still pushing themselves into new directions.
The opener, “Cider”, sets the scene with synth tones and guitar lines that instantly bring you into Becker’s first summer in New York. The whole album is unique and tracks like “Midwest Dream” and “Sweet Sixteen” highlight Becker’s reflections on family and growing up, while “Amy” and “Hashem” explore identity and cultural roots in ways that are both specific and relatable. Out of all of them, “Midwest Dream” stuck with me the most.
What makes the album stand out is how personal it is without ever losing its energy. It’s loud, thoughtful, and full of character, definitely give it a listen, and keep up with Wetsuit on Instagram and Bandcamp for whatever they put out next in 2025.
