Weak Trees – “Animal”

Weak Trees have a new single, “Animal”, and to be honest with you, it’s my favorite of the day. It’s based on a real night they had out in the snow, heading to this forest spot they always go to for a campfire. The whole thing sounds like it could’ve gone bad, with heavy snow, freezing cold, and someone getting lost trying to find dry bark to get the fire going. It wasn’t exactly a smooth night.

The part that stuck with me is when their dog, Elvis, showed up through the snow and helped guide the guy back to the fire. That moment is kind of the heart of the song. It’s not trying to be deep or dramatic. It’s more about real stuff that happened and how important dogs have been in their lives, both the ones still around and the ones they’ve lost.
