Tom Minor – “Bureau of Change”

Tom Minor is back incredibly fast after his last record, “Ten New Toe-Tappers for Shoplifting & Self-Mutilation“, and his latest track “Bureau of Change” is brilliant. The London singer songwriter creates what he calls existential indie, and this new track shows exactly why he has been getting so much appreciation lately.

The track jumps around creatively. In less than four minutes, the sound morphs from classic indie rock to two tone, then shifts directly into tango and bolero before circling back. It sounds chaotic on paper, but everything fits together in a strange, tragi comical harmony. Teaboy Palmer produced the track, balancing all these distinct musical changes smoothly.

The words target the short changing pushed on everyday people by powerful corporate forces. Minor sings about how the bureau of change believes people need short change right now, taking aim at everything from the Palace of Injustice to the rotten houses of the Regency. Images of standing by the vending machine, lining your pockets with bricks and cobblestones, and kicking off your training wheels highlight the absurdity of modern life under these powers. It takes a sharp look at political greed without losing its sense of dark comedy, especially with lines about a golden handshower or people mixing with the wrong crowd.

I absolutely love this release. It is a fantastic piece of independent music that keeps you on your toes the entire time. You should definitely go back and check out his previous work like “Eleven Easy Pieces on Anger & Disappointment” to see how his writing developed over the years.

You should follow Tom Minor on his social platforms right now to keep up with everything he does. He has a habit of putting out excellent music unexpectedly, and following his pages is the best way to make sure you do not miss any new music he shares during the rest of this year. He is a truly talented individual who deserves all the support, and staying connected with his journey ensures you see every single thing he creates.
