Switch the MC – “Smoke & Sex”
Switch the MC is back with Smoke & Sex, the second part of his Comme Moi trilogy. He’s based in Paris, but his style pulls from different places like Benin, France, and the UK, and that mix really shapes the feel of this project. Compared to the first chapter, this one goes in a more personal direction. It’s less about holding back anger and more about letting people in. My favorite tracks are “6 AM” and “Stretch”.
The EP blends Afrobeat with rap in a way that doesn’t feel overdone. It moves in a steady, confident way thanks to the Nigerian and Beninese producers involved. You can tell there was real thought put into how each track feels, but it never sounds stiff or overworked. He switches between French and English easily and nothing feels out of place, and what’s cool is how real the whole thing feels, t’s got rhythm, it’s got heart, and it doesn’t sound like it’s trying to be something it’s not. It comes across like someone making music that reflects who they are, not chasing what’s popular.
If this is your first time hearing about Switch the MC, give this one a listen and follow him online to stay updated on the rest of what he’s putting out in 2025.
