Sometimes Julie – “Transition”
Sometimes Julie, the San Diego-based duo of Monica Sorenson and Rick Walker, are back with a new six-song EP titled Transition, out December 30. Compared to their past albums, which had more of a classic and alt-rock sound, this one goes in a different direction. It’s more stripped-down and personal but still keeps the mix of rock, pop, and country that’s been part of their style from the start.
The songs were written and produced by Sorenson and Walker and recorded at three studios across North San Diego County. You can tell this release mattered to them. The songwriting feels honest, and the arrangements don’t get in the way of that. Sorenson doesn’t hold back, and there’s a lot of heart in what she’s sharing. The ones that deserve your attention are “Carry Her”, “Before”, “Shooting Star”, and “Finally the Rain”.
They brought in new band members for this EP and teamed up again with musicians they’ve worked with before. The result sounds tight and confident without being overdone.
And if you’ve been following them already, this one’s worth spending time with. Definitely check out their earlier releases too and make sure you follow them on social media to hear what they’re working on next.
