Soek – “We Were Taller Then”

Soek, the project from composer Grant Borland, just put out a new single titled “We Were Taller Then”. It’s an instrumental track that looks back on childhood in a really thoughtful way. There’s no over-explaining or dramatic build, just a sincere piece that taps into something a lot of people can relate to.

The piano is at the center, and you can tell it was recorded with care. It has this movement to it that keeps things going without feeling busy, and there are a bunch of layers that give it texture, and even though it was recorded in different places like Michigan, Croatia, and Vancouver, it comes together as one complete piece. The live strings from Session Strings Studio make a big difference, they bring a real, human tone that blends nicely with the piano and the synths. It doesn’t feel polished in a commercial way, it sounds personal.
