Romattic – “Candy Smoking”

The latest noise from Romattic hits with a wicked sense of irony. On “Candy Smoking”, singer-songwriter Theodor Andreas Halmrast and producer Tommy Duong take a sharp jab at modern romance, tearing into the obsession with relationships as empty status symbols. They zero in on that desperate social fear of missing out, where staying attached to someone becomes an expectation you fight to keep even when it turns completely one-sided.

The story follows a guy who is madly in love with a woman he is dating. Everyone around him can see what is happening. His family and friends constantly warn him that she is just taking advantage of him, but he simply cannot bring himself to let go. “My friends tell me I’m hopeless. She’s stripping off my senses, but I don’t want to believe that”. It captures that terrifying space where holding onto social acceptance matters more than protecting your own heart.

Romattic started back in 2025 as a solo outlet before evolving into its current 2026 setup as a duo. Theodor merged “Romance” and “Attic” to create the name, trimming down his initial idea of “Romance in the Attic” because it felt way too long. The project blends modern songwriting with nostalgic textures from the 1980s and 1990s, anchored by classic rock influences. They even put out random demos like “i forgot it wasn’t christmas” just because they felt like it.

“Candy Smoking” delivers a real reality check wrapped in sharp songwriting, showing off a project that knows exactly how to push buttons while making great music.
