Plaster – “Back to Basics”

Plaster’s debut EP “Back to Basics” hit me like that first cold beer after a long week in summer, it’s refreshing, satisfying, and leaving me wanting more and more. If you have been listening to bands such as Fontaines DC, Crack Cloud, or Title Fight, you will instantly relate to what these guys are doing. They are not trying to reinvent the wheel, they are simply making damn sure that it rolls perfectly.
Recorded at Sunsick Studios with Alex Jacobelli and mastered by Brad at Audioseige, the EP has the advantage of a live recording style that captures the band’s natural energy. You can almost feel them in the room with you, exchanging glances as they lock into each groove. If have to pick just one favorite track of the EP, that will be very hard, but for me, “Upswing” and “Past Life” are standouts.
What impresses me most about “Back to Basics” is the fact that the title is a perfect description of the music. In a time when overproduction has become the norm, Plaster strips everything back to the essentials. No fancy tricks or digital smoke and mirrors – just good songwriting and honest performance. The chemistry of the band is evident throughout the EP. These are not just musicians who are playing in the same room. they are a unit that breathes as one. You can feel their collective musical journey in every track, creating and releasing tension with the assurance of experienced performers.
I really can’t wait to see where these guys go next and you should definitely give “Back to Basics”, follow Plaster on all their social media channels to keep up with their journey, and add these tracks to your playlist because music this authentic deserves to be supported, shared, and celebrated as much as possible.
