Pesky Kid – “Holy Light”

Pesky Kid just put out “Holy Light” and honestly, it might be one of the better tracks he’s released this fall. Pesky Kid knows how to blend irony with real feeling without making it seem try-hard. The song reminds me of stuff from Wishy and MJ Lenderman, with a bit of that Belle and Sebastian sweetness thrown in.

The whole thing has this self-aware quality but still manages to hit you in a genuine way. The guitars are laid-back and easy, and those layered vocals work really well together. And to be honest with you guys, it’s the best track I’ve heard in the last couple of days. You can tell Pesky Kid has his hands in a bunch of different styles. He’s borrowing from all over the place to make something that actually sounds current and fresh for right now. That DIY background comes through too, which makes sense given all his time running shows and working venues.

This is the third thing Pesky Kid has dropped this fall, so go listen to the other stuff if you haven’t already. If “Holy Light” is your thing, follow Pesky Kid on social media so you don’t miss the upcoming Benny EP.
