NOREA – “Submarines”

NOREA released their debut single “Submarines”. Based in Malmö, NOREA is already known for playing drums in bands like Junodef and The Garage Flowers, but this release is a different step. Recorded in a bedroom at Nobeltorget, it carries a strong DIY spirit and shows how much can be done with persistence and creativity.

The track has been around for a while, it started years ago on an acoustic guitar during a Christmas break, but at the time it sounded too much like an unfinished ballad. The song was put away until Norea brought it back, tried out new arrangements, and finally found a version that worked. The result is upbeat indie-pop with electronic touches, while still keeping an edge of vulnerability.

The lyrics look at being drawn to someone who isn’t good for you. That kind of relationship can make you lose your balance and feel like a stranger to yourself. The combination of personal honesty with a driving rhythm is what makes the single stand out. With mixing by Nils Nilsson and mastering by Estrid Nyman, “Submarines” is a strong introduction to NOREA’s solo work. Keep up with NOREA on social media to hear more music through 2025.
