Naomi Neva – “This Is Over”

Good Tuesday afternoon! Oakland-based indie rock artist Naomi Neva has released her new single “This Is Over”, and it’s a raw breakup anthem that doesn’t hold back. She wrote the track on a flight home from Berlin after getting radio silence from someone she cared about, which is probably the worst time to be stuck between a couple passing snacks over your head. But that messy moment turned into one of her strongest songs.

This is the first time Naomi has worked with a producer. She sent the demo to Kimberley Shires at Hear Me Roar Studio, and Kimberley immediately got the punk rock vibe she was going for, mentioning Ani DiFranco as a reference point. If you’re into Olivia Rodrigo or PJ Harvey, you’ll probably dig this too. Naomi says the song is about realizing you’re not going to get what you want from someone and that it’s time to stop pretending, but here’s the twist, she’s still friends with both people who inspired it, and she admits that’s probably still a mistake, and that kind of honesty makes the song hit harder.

The distorted guitars and big chorus really capture that mix of heartbreak and taking your power back. If this one connects with you, go back and listen to her earlier singles too. Follow Naomi Neva on social media to keep up with her new releases.
