Mortal Prophets – “Hide Inside The Moon”
John Beckmann deserves a lot of credit for creating music that holds your attention without trying too hard. With Hide Inside The Moon, he continues developing The Mortal Prophets with a sense of care and focus. He takes the lead on the music, writing, and production, and this time brings in two new voices—Tanner McGraw on lead vocals and Lawson Mars on backing vocals. Their presence gives the album a slightly different tone while staying true to the project’s style.
The sound blends psychedelic dream-pop with ambient and cinematic influences. The pacing is unhurried, which works in its favor. These songs breathe a little more and leave room to settle into the atmosphere. Fans of older material like Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd or artists like Cocteau Twins and Mazzy Star will probably notice a few familiar touches, but the album keeps its own identity. Some tracks that stood out include Hide Inside the Moon, My Future Past, and Eyes in the Sky. One song takes influence from Cy Twombly’s artwork, which adds a visual connection to the album’s focus on memory and time.
