Loop One South – “No Memories In Glass”
Loop One South has put together something genuinely interesting with No Memories In Glass. The Houston act pulls from synthwave, dream pop, and vaporwave to build a record that holds together better than you’d expect from that mix.
The production grabbed my attention for the first track, it’s clean and professional. The dream pop elements keep things from feeling too cold, and the vaporwave influence adds a layer of irony that doesn’t tip into parody. Identity and memory show up again and again as subjects, and the record handles that without getting too heavy-handed about it. You notice the ideas more than you’re hit over the head with them. To be honest, it’s one of the best albums we’ve written about in the last couple of weeks.
My personal favorites are “Eco Crust”, “Building Tomorrow Today”, “Exit Wound”, and the title track “No Memories In Glass.” “Exit Wound” clocks in at 3:18 and is one of the more gripping moments on the record, while “Building Tomorrow Today” stretches to 3:44 and earns every second of it, and I’m pretty sure you will enjoy it.
If you’re new to Loop One South, dig into their earlier work too. There’s a lot to explore. And follow them to keep up with whatever they’ve got coming for the rest of the year.
