Lateral Root – “Sunlight”
Lateral Root is the solo project of Tom Quick, a composer and producer based in Bristol. His track “Sunlight” was put together during lockdown, which he spent away from family and friends. That feeling of distance comes through in the music, but not in a heavy way. Trust me, it’s one of the best tracks you will hear today, I guarantee this.
Lateral Root has been doing this for a long time. He’s worked on music for TV, played keys for Nightmares on Wax and Mozez from Zero 7, and clearly knows his way around a studio. “Sunlight” was built using a mix of analog gear, computer software, and some outboard hardware. The result is smooth and steady. It locks into a groove and stays there without trying to impress you with any big moves. It’s the kind of track that works whether you’re tuning in closely or letting it play in the background while you’re thinking, and there’s care in the way it was built.
If you’re into stuff that’s calm but has a pulse, check out “Sunlight”. Follow Lateral Root on social media to catch whatever he’s got coming next this year.
