La Need Machine – “Pourquoi? C’est L’Amour!”

The album I’ve been obsessing over is La Need Machine’s “Pourquoi? C’est L’Amour!”. This Seattle outfit brings something special to the indie rock table. Their mix of female and male vocal harmonies creates this rich texture that pulls you right into their sonic world. What I love and appreciate is how they weave cello, keyboards, and saxophone into their sound without it feeling forced or pretentious, it’s safe to say it’s one of the best two albums I heard recently.

Tracks transition nicely from one to another in the album and you can’t notice this in every album. “Our Song” captures that feeling of being young and not caring what anyone thinks, while “I Wish I Could Fly” shows more reflective lyrics with painful longing. “Maria” with its Spanish touches, you’ll find yourself singing the chorus for hours or days, this is exactly what happened to me.

Maybe because I love Van Gogh, but my favorite song is “Vincent Van Gogh”, it’s got this philosophical take on making the most of your time that feels particularly relevant in 2025.

“These Old Jeans” hits that sweet spot of nostalgia without being cliché, and “Sardonic Love” shows they’ve got a sense of humor mixed with their heartbreak. By the time you reach the anthemic “The Hometown Heroes”, you’ll understand why this album feels so cohesive despite each song is distinct.

From the first time I heard the release, I was excited to share it with you because I know you will enjoy it as much as I did. And trust me, you should follow the band on social media and make sure to share “Pourquoi? C’est L’Amour!”, it deserves to be shared with everyone you know who appreciates music that speaks to both the heart and mind.
