Kevin Honold – “Waterfall”

Sometimes a song catches you at the exact right moment and completely flips your day around. The new single “Waterfall” by singer-songwriter Kevin Honold is exactly that kind of track. It arrived at the end of July, landing right in the middle of a heavy season filled with burnout and real world stress, but it feels like opening a window to let the sun in.

The track kicks off with a raw confession, “Sometimes I feel like I’m all out of love”. It is a heavy place to start, but the song quickly breaks out into a massive, bright rush of indie pop-rock. The arrangement is layered beautifully, moving forward on live drums, bass, and an amazing blend of horns and strings. Luke Fox holds down the low end on bass while Trevor Michalak keeps the pocket tight on drums. You can hear Joe Gullace bright trumpet lines, Steve Shimchick keys, Jenn Fantaccione gorgeous strings, and Moe McGowan backing vocals adding serious depth. Kevin himself handles the lead vocals, guitar, and tenor sax, tying the whole thing together into a massive, uplifting chorus and it feels completely alive, the kind of music made for summer road trips where you roll the windows down and just drive.

Following up on his previous track “Saturday Night”, this release gives us a great look at his upcoming second album. I absolutely love this track, and it is clear to me that Kevin has crafted an absolute masterpiece that turns the struggles of real life into pure gratitude and joy.
