Kai Rush – “Everybody Needs Me”
Kai Rush’s “Everybody Needs Me” comes in with a kind of confidence that almost feels like a front, and that’s what makes it interesting. On the surface, you get that bold, slightly cocky hook repeating “Everybody’s dead obsessed with me”, but the more you sit with it, the more it starts to sound like someone trying to convince themselves it’s true. “Everybody Needs Me” is my favorite track of the day.
The upbeat energy pulls you in right away, but the verses hit differently. There’s a clear sense of someone getting lost while trying to build a life, and not realizing the damage that comes with it until it’s already happening. It doesn’t feel heavy-handed though, it feels honest, like a thought that keeps creeping back in when things slow down.
I also like how the whole thing doesn’t take itself too seriously and even the idea behind the video, with Kai playing a janitor trying way too hard to become a famous chef, adds another layer to the song’s message without making it feel preachy. It’s a smart way to mirror that gap between ambition and reality.
After a few listens, the hook sticks, but it’s the tension underneath that keeps it replayable. It’s catchy, sure, but there’s more going on if you pay attention. I’m into this one. It makes me want to go back and check out what Kai Rush has released before, and I’d say you should too. Give Kai a follow and keep an eye on what’s next.
