Julieta Brur – “The Heart of the Heart”

Julieta Brur just came out with a ten-track debut album titled The Heart of the Heart on Protomaterial Records, and I cannot stop listening to it. She recorded the whole thing over two years between Berlin and Barcelona, teaming up with producer Joan Arnau Pàmies, and you can tell how much time and care went into every single track.

What I love about this music is how completely unforced it feels. Julieta moved from Argentina to Germany, picked up electronic production, and mixed those new skills with her classical piano background. You get this incredibly rich blend of live strings, clarinet, electric bass, and a traditional bandoneón, all floating around electronic beats and her own vocals. A great example is the track “To Me”, which features guest vocals from Ilan Woodward and has this stunning balance between intimate moments and bigger, chamber-style arrangements.

The whole record focuses on ideas like empathy and forgiveness. It doesn’t lecture you, though. It just puts a lot of raw honesty out there. Julieta plays a ton of the instruments herself, handling the piano and programming the electronic textures alongside collaborators like Lucas Lorenzi on bass and Leonel Gasso on the bandoneón.

It is easily one of the most refreshing things I have heard all year because it feels alive and totally genuine. You should definitely check out Julieta Brur on her social media pages to keep up with what she is releasing next.
