JSDavani – “Prefix:SELF”

JSDavani’s Prefix:SELF feels like the kind of album that took time, not just to make but to figure out what it even was. It plays around with the idea of identity in a way that’s not preachy or spelled out, but you can sense it in how the tracks are put together. He brings in pieces from his older work, field recordings, bits of sound, and blends them in so naturally that you probably wouldn’t notice unless you’ve been following him for a while.

JSDavani has been at this for over twenty years, and you can hear that experience in how everything connects. The transitions feel thought through, the sounds aren’t flashy, and nothing feels random. Even the visual stuff he’s known for, like the video loops, adds to the whole vibe without being a distraction.

There’s also this interesting balance between being experimental without pushing the listener away. It’s weird, but not confusing. Personal, but not heavy. It’s safe to say it’s one of the best albums I’ve heard this week, and my favorite track is “CARE Slogan”.

If you’re into projects that have layers and feel like they came from somewhere real, this one’s worth sitting with. Definitely follow JSDavani to see what else he shares in 2025.
