John Goldrust – “Like A Phoenix”

“Like A Phoenix” is a wonderful album by John Goldrust, released just 3 weeks back. This guitar focused project follows his electronic release “Happy By Design EP” and his earlier work “Travellers In Timing EP”, you can stream it here. Recorded at Goldrust Records Studio in East Oxford, the project brings together close friends and talented guest musicians to share their musical energy. Funky Paulo plays piano, Ilodica adds melodica, Duncan Jebbett plays bass, and Dan Glazebrooke handles drums.

The songs focus heavily on human connections, exploring romantic bonds, family ties, how people interact with society, and how individuals relate to themselves. Every single track sounds like a genuine human emotion reaching out to touch hearts across the modern world. John recorded everything with traditional analogue tape methods in mind, avoiding strict grid timing completely and leaving out autotune entirely. Because of this careful approach, the organic instruments sound warm, natural, and wonderfully alive. You hear true human energy in every single chord, vocal performance, and note.

Two favorite tracks from the album are “Like Yesterday” and “It’s Dawning On Mars”. “Like Yesterday” brings a powerful acoustic energy, while “It’s Dawning On Mars” hits with memorable melodies and striking guitar work. John has performed these songs live at local open mic events, poetry circles, and even at The Jericho Tavern in Oxford where famous bands got their start years ago. He also spent years cross pollinating music scenes in Oxford, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Brighton while forming bands and writing songs. During his early years, music shops used his demo recordings to show off their gear while he remained empty handed, prompting him to spend the last ten years independently refining his production skills.

You should also check out his unreleased singer songwriter recordings on “The Blue Album” alongside “Travellers In Timing EP”, with both albums available now following their early October launch. Making music with an organic and carefully crafted feel, John brings a truly refreshing style to modern audio art after many years of dedicated work. Make sure to follow John Goldrust to stay updated about new releases for the rest of this year.
