Janet Devlin – “Not My First Emotional Rodeo”
Janet Devlin knocked it out of the park with this deluxe album. She banged out 24 songs in three days down in Nashville and still had too many good ones left over to squeeze onto the original record. The eight new tracks she tossed on here bounce around from upbeat stuff like “Candy” to darker moments like “Plastic Pistol” that have this gritty western vibe, and “Psycho Ex” sounds like it’s got some real attitude. But her version of “The Gambler” is where she really surprised me. She recorded it at George Ezra’s studio and completely reimagined it – stripped away all the familiar upbeat stuff and made it slow and intimate with just acoustic guitar and her voice. Turned a country classic into something totally fresh. You need to follow Janet on Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, Facebook, and Twitter.
