Fierbinteanu – “Merrymaking”
Brussels-based electro-punk duo Fierbinteanu released “Merrymaking” in late November, and it’s worth checking out. The track goes after dictators and billionaires but does it with this playful energy that keeps things from getting too heavy-handed, and Cristian Fierbinteanu talks about holding onto “stubborn naiveté” and thinking that music and dance can still make things a bit better. It’s political but not a protest song, which works.
The song is bouncy and retro with electronic instrumentation. It’s built for dancing, and Gabriela’s vocals cut right through with plenty of confidence. At three minutes, it gets in and out without dragging. They played it live in the UK recently and people responded well, which tracks because it has that immediate, crowd-friendly quality.
This is their second single this autumn. “Women of the World” came out in September, and they’re planning to put both on a future album. The duo records in Brussels and has been building a catalog of songs about billionaires and monsters with strong vocals and theatrical sound design. The cover art for “Merrymaking” is a collage by Cristi Mărculescu.
If you like what they’re doing, follow them on Instagram, Facebook, or Bandcamp to stay in the loop for whatever they put out in the rest of 2025.
