Emily Sophia – “Alive”
Emerging artist Emily Sophia collaborated with producers Lukas Romero and Kendra Barovick to bring her single “Alive” to life. She met Kendra at an open mic in 2021 and, as a result, met Lukas, who was originally in Kendra’s band. Lukas produced the track and played guitars and bass, while Kendra recorded and produced vocals. The result draws inspiration from classic ’90s dream‑pop groups like The Sundays, The Cranberries and The Cardigans. “Alive” began as a songwriting assignment in college and had an earlier version made entirely on GarageBand. That demo was cute, but this new recording, the one she always imagined, features a full live band. Emily is especially thrilled to have drummer Dylan Buzz Gold, known for work with Lola Young, contributing to the track. She loves the energy of real instruments and appreciates being surrounded by talented collaborators. The song has a bedroom‑pop intimacy because it was recorded in Kendra or Lukas’s apartments.
During production, Lukas would switch between electric, acoustic and bass guitars while Kendra’s cats wandered around the apartment as vocals were recorded, adding a charming spontaneity to the process. The singer recently participated in a battle of the bands at the Lodge Room, finishing third despite being the only singer‑songwriter/pop act in a lineup of heavy metal bands.
