Earth Dog – “Mothership Breather”

Earth Dog Mothership’s seven-song LP “Breather” bursts with energy from the first note to the last. Released by OVOLR! Records, this second album shows the Richmond, Virginia band in their element, playing raw rock with heavy blues and fuzzy nineties vibes and the group includes Chad England on guitar and vocals, Joel Nolting on guitar, Bradley Lile on bass, and Mike Arjona on drums.

Of all the tracks, “Beat Up Bones” and “Breather” are my personal favorites, and the title track shows the band at their most dynamic, balancing heavy riffs with moments of reflection. Chad’s vocals and guitar blend smoothly with Joel’s guitar, building a thick, powerful sound and it’s safe to say it’s one of the best releases I’ve wrote about in the last couple of weeks.

The band’s chemistry brings energy to every track and this is what makes it a unique release; and after their 2023 debut “Blind Clocks” on Bandcamp, this album shows how much more confident they’ve become, while keeping their original edge and you really need to listen to it. I like that they avoid putting labels on their music, focusing instead on feeling and intensity.
