CS Hellmann – “In My Head”

CS Hellmann’s new single “In My Head” grabbed my attention right away. The Nashville-based artist worked with producer Jared Corder at Polychrome Ranch, a secluded cabin studio in East Tennessee, and you can hear how that setting influenced the recording.

The track has this dark indie sound that reminds me of War on Drugs and Arctic Monkeys, but Hellmann has his own take on it. He mixes dreamy 80s-inspired sounds with riff-driven grooves that keep things interesting from start to finish. The way he balances cinematic moments with intimate ones is impressive and not easy to do well.

“In My Head” gets into that mental back-and-forth between ambition and reality, the kind of thing most people deal with but don’t always talk about. Hellmann clearly pulled from his own life for this one, and Corder’s production choices support that honesty. They tried some experimental stuff in the studio that pays off without being distracting or overdone.

I’ve listened to this a few times now, and each time I notice details I missed before. If you’re into artists who take introspection seriously and work with producers willing to take risks, give this a shot. You won’t regret it. Follow CS Hellmann on social media so you don’t miss what he puts out next in 2025.
