Chloé French is only on her second release, but “Messy (but French)” makes it clear she’s onto something interesting. Originally a Lola Young track, this version swaps the rawness of the original for something sleek and playful, yet still deeply personal. Chloé leans into her Geneva meets NYC background, bringing in touches of 1960s French disco and chanson, and the result has a cool, cross-generational vibe.

What I like most is how naturally the song balances nostalgia with a modern pulse, the French lyrics fit perfectly with the indie disco groove, making it feel like a love letter to another era without sounding dated. There’s a confidence in how she reinterprets the song; it’s not about competing with the original but reframing it in her own world. You can tell she’s got a clear sense of what she wants her sound to be.

“Messy (but French)” drops next week, and it’s a strong lead up to her debut EP, “The NYC Tapes”, coming in January ’26. If you’re into fresh takes on classic influences, you’ll want to keep an eye on Chloé French. Follow her on social media to stay updated on what she’s bringing for the rest of 2025.
