Carla Patullo – “FLY UNDER”
Carla Patullo closes her GRAMMY-winning album NOMADICA with “FLY UNDER”, a collaboration with Martha Wainwright that lands in a very honest place. After taking home her second GRAMMY for the album, this final track feels like a quiet conversation rather than a big finale.
NOMADICA was written in honor of Carla’s mother, who died suddenly in a car accident, and that loss sits at the heart of “FLY UNDER”. The album begins in grief and confusion, then slowly moves toward acceptance. This song captures that shift in a way that feels personal and direct. Carla and Wainwright share the lead vocals, and the blend of their voices adds a real sense of closeness.
While writing the album, Carla imagined conversations with her late mother and even revisited the moment of her passing in her mind. On difficult days, she sat in front of a microphone and sang, working through emotions that had been frozen for years. Patullo has scored more than 30 films and recently completed work on the indie sci-fi film Brother Save Us, so she clearly understands how to build atmosphere.
