Aran Sheehy – “There is a Mermaid Using the Computer”

Good Tuesday morning. Aran Sheehy’s single “There is a Mermaid Using the Computer” teams him up with Blakkheart, and I honestly had a good time with this one. The title grabs you right away, but the song backs it up with a real sense of character.

I liked how it brings together garage rhythms, pop texture, and that strange early internet mood. There’s a clear 90s aquatic nostalgia in it, and that mix gives the track its own personality. It comes across playful, a little surreal, and still grounded enough to keep me interested the whole way through.

For me, the best part is how naturally those ideas fit together. A lot of songs with a quirky title can come off like a one-note joke, but this one has more to it. You can tell Aran Sheehy and Blakkheart had a strong picture in mind, and that picture gives the single a memorable identity. Passing 100,000 streams also makes sense to me. It has a weird charm, a clear point of view, and enough heart to stay with you after it ends. It makes you curious about where he goes next, which is a good sign. I came away thinking this song knows exactly what it wants to be, and that confidence helps it land for me on first listen. Follow Aran Sheehy on social media, and check out his other releases too.
