Allan Jamisen – “This Is Not an Act”

Allan Jamisen deserves credit for making music that comes across as personal and well thought out, and I hope you’re having a peaceful Saturday night because “This Is Not an Act” is a release worth spending time with.

Right away, I was drawn to how this single brings together spoken word, jazz, and electronic elements without sounding messy or overdone. Allan sounds like someone who knows exactly what kind of space he wants this song to live in, and that made the whole thing more interesting to me. There is a clear identity here, and that matters. A lot of songs can have good ideas and still leave very little behind once they end, but this one stayed on my mind because it comes from a real place.

I also liked learning how the track took shape. It started with music from Joachim Michaelis, then Allan built on it with lead vocals recorded in Phoenix while also adding drum programming, saxophone, and flute. Later, the song was shaped further in Los Angeles with John X Volaitis handling the final mix. That path gave the single even more character in my eyes because it sounds like something that was carefully built step by step.

The focus on authenticity and mortality also gives the release a strong foundation. “This Is Not an Act” made me want to hear more from Allan Jamisen, so I’d definitely say check out his other releases too. Follow Allan Jamisen on social media to stay updated on new music.
