Alec Cheer – “Seeing in the Dark”

Alec Cheer’s new EP Seeing in the Dark came out on October 6 and it’s one of those releases that really lets you slow down and settle into it. He’s a Glasgow-based musician who’s been around for a while, and you can hear that experience in the way this EP is built. It doesn’t try to be big or dramatic. It’s more about mood and memory than anything flashy.

The four tracks of the EP are Aldi Werewolf, Moon Phases, Headspin, and Memory Wave. Aldi Werewolf starts things off with this restless, slightly wild energy that reminds me of being a teenager and staying out way too late. Moon Phases feels quieter and more thoughtful, like it’s circling back to things you’ve been meaning to think about, Headspin really hit for me, it has this subtle movement to it, like when you’re on a train and your brain starts to wander. Then Memory Wave brings it all down to a calmer place. It’s minimal and still, like taking a break from everything.

The whole EP sounds like someone working things out in real time, and that makes it easy to connect with. If you’re into music that gives you a bit of space, this is worth checking out. Follow Alec Cheer on socials to stay in the loop for more in 2025.
