A Chat With Lucky Duck About “SANITY”

Q: Hi! SANITY is finally out in the world—how does it feel to actually have this project breathing on its own after working on it for so long?

Q: This whole album took about six years to put together. Looking back at the first track you laid down versus the last one, how do you feel your voice changed over that span?

Q: You’ve got heavy Queens roots, and you’ve even shouted out “Queens get the money”. How much of your hometown actually made it into the DNA of this record?

Q: You bounce back and forth between rapping, singing, and pulling from country, disco, and trip-hop—do you ever catch yourself in the studio thinking, “Wait, am I pushing this genre-mixing thing a bit too far right now”?

Q: ‘well shot and a beer’ is such a wild collision of country, pop, rock, and hip-hop. Where did the spark for that particular track come from?

Q: You’ve been working closely with folks like Denise Barbarita and Steve Jabas. What’s the vibe like in the studio with that crew when you’re trying to figure a song out in real time?

Q: ‘only 1 me’ feels like the ultimate confidence anthem. Was that track written more as a reminder to yourself, or for anyone else who needs to hear it?

Q: If someone’s pressing play on this record for the very first time and trying to figure out who Lucky Duck is, which song are you pointing them toward first?

Q: To wrap things up, what’s next for you for the rest of this year once the dust settles from this release?
