DownTown Mystic – “Maybe Love’s A Crime”

When “Maybe Love’s A Crime” starts playing, the groove immediately grabs you. Recorded by DownTown Mystic, this single hits the airwaves with a classic shuffle that sounds completely alive. You can tell right away that the musicians in the studio knew how to lock into a pocket. The rhythm section features drummer Steve Holley and bassist Paul Page driving the groove forward with absolute ease. That shuffle rhythm came together smoothly during the session, and that live energy shines right away. Keyboard player Jeff Levine adds a sensational piano performance that shines as an instant classic from the very first chord. Along with the main track, the release also includes a TV Mix version. Every single player brings top tier talent to the recording, and you hear that raw chemistry instantly.

Paul Page helped solve a creative puzzle during the session by suggesting that specific shuffle groove. The writer and producer Robert Allen knew right away that the idea worked like a charm because Page had previously worked with rock legend Dion. Bringing together players who have spent time with icons like Paul McCartney and Elton John results in a sound that honors the roots of rock and roll. Everything was recorded live in one take, capturing a rare magic. You hear the effortless chemistry flow from note to note without any digital trickery getting in the way.

For me, this release is a massive win for DownTown Mystic. The band captures a timeless rock sound that sounds totally genuine and exciting. They do not rely on modern tricks or overblown studio magic. They just play great music with legendary players who understand how to rock. It is honest music that sticks in your head long after the track stops playing.
