General Bonkers – “Destabilization”

This one deserves your full attention. General Bonkers brings a fascinating approach to electronic music on “No Hard Problems”. The talented artist crafts soundscapes using real instruments and analog gear live, almost completely avoiding pre-recorded elements. From the moment this EP landed on my radar, I was excited to share it with you.

The underlying idea behind this release connects brain waves with music and it plays with rhythm, resonance, and oscillation to map out how our minds operate. Listening to it feels like an exploration of internal frequencies.

“Destabilization” is easily my favorite from the 5-track list, stretching out under five minutes to build a mesmerizing groove, and “Baked” kicks things off, while “Reduction” brings a tighter structure to the middle of the order. “Universal Signature Two” and “Unexplained Variance” round out the collection, giving each track room to explore its own distinct analog space.

The visual presentation matches the music wonderfully and this is what makes the record more interesting. The album art features a close-up of a black cat with striking neon-colored eyes and vibrant glowing whiskers against a colorful background, perfectly mirroring the playful yet intricate tone of the project.

It is rare to hear gear pushed to its limits with this level of spontaneity, and the entire project feels alive as a result. You can feel the physical presence of the analog equipment breathing life into every passage.
