Lupia – “Sunshine”

“Sunshine” by Lupia came out of a period spent returning home and finishing a degree, and that heavy emotional weight is baked into the entire four-song set. The tracks carry a fuzzy, overcast energy that taps into classic shoegaze influences like The Cocteau Twins and Lush, using heavy guitar textures to explore what it feels like to regress while fighting to move forward. Tracked mostly at home, the whole thing possesses a tender, lo-fi edge that feels deeply intimate.

“I Have Not Been Found” sets an immediate, dreamy tone with sprawling instrumental layers and “Space” follows, letting the textures expand over five minutes, while “Cosmic Friend” keeps that warm, blurred atmosphere floating along nicely. But “Rose Quartz” easily stands out as my favorite. It serves as a culmination of ideas with the heaviest climax on the release, tackling decisions that keep the past where it belongs. The track centers on unconditional love, processing regrets, and acknowledging past mistakes in order to grow.

The addition of special effects, guest vocals, and extra drums from friends helps shape these four tracks into something truly grounding. The DIY home-recording nature gives the production a personal quality that makes every guitar swell feel honest and raw and it captures a precise moment where the sound gets heavier, offering a raw look at moving past old baggage.
