Oscillatina – “Humble-Link!”
Putting on a record, letting it play straight through, and finishing with a real smile is exactly how you know a band made something beautiful. The new album “AND THE Pareidolia Dogs” by Oscillatina is that kind of complete journey, a long form experience that rewards your curiosity by giving you something new on every single spin. Tracked over at Electrokitty Studios and completely self funded, the project balances wild experimentation with great hooks. Working with producer Garrett Reynolds, who has guided records for Sleater-Kinney, the band ended up creating a remarkably unified piece of art.
Indie rock serves as the main foundation, but the music constantly branches out into garage rock, post punk, new wave, folk, jazz, lo fi, electronic, surf rock, and psych territory. It is a massive stylistic stretch, but it hangs together beautifully, and the song “Humble-Link!” highlights this creative vision perfectly. The track features stellar instrumental work, with guitars twisting through the mix while a sharp rhythm section keeps everything moving forward. It’s a beautiful track that deserves your full attention.
Every detail here is incredibly personal, right down to the hand painted cover art done on a four foot canvas. It is a substantial piece of work that actually takes you somewhere. Personally, I absolutely love this release, mostly because it is incredibly adventurous without ever locking the listener out.
