The Real Anthem – “New Skies”

I just spent the morning listening to New Skies, the fresh single from The Real Anthem. This three piece group has roots in Arizona and California, and they collaborate across state lines by swapping stems and ideas remotely. You would never guess they work long distance because the track possesses a dizzying passionate intensity that feels completely unified.

The energy here is incredible. It draws inspiration from early, propulsive Echo and The Bunnymen, U2, and The Comsat Angels, along with modern post punk groups like the Editors. There is even a great bridge that gives a clear nod to Love and Rockets. Shawn Helton drives the track with commanding main vocals and evocative lyrics, while Andy Mitchell and Matt King supply excellent guitars and atmospheric textures. Matt King also handled the mix engineering, keeping everything sounding lively.

This is an absolutely fantastic release that captures the genuine spirit of classic post punk while sounding incredibly fresh. You should check out the previous releases from The Real Anthem to see how their style has developed. Make sure to follow The Real Anthem on social media to stay updated about their new releases during the rest of this year.
