Reetoxa – “Love Keeps Burning Still”
The new single Love Keeps Burning Still by Melbourne artist Reetoxa is a beautiful piano ballad that catches you off guard. Jason McKee, the vocalist and songwriter behind the project, wrote this track during a heavy COVID lockdown while going through a divorce from his partner of ten years, Lee. You can feel that raw heartbreak in the delivery.
Reetoxa teamed up with producer Simon Moro and gathered an incredible group of Australian music veterans, including bassist Kit Riley, guitarist James Ryan, drummer Peter Marin, and Terry Hart on piano. Riley brought in his wife, Jessica McPherson-Riley, to turn the track into a vocal duet. The surprise is the addition of a Budapest strings orchestra arranged over Zoom. Listening to the delicate piano chords mix with those soaring European strings, it is easy to see this track ending up on a Hollywood movie soundtrack. The artwork fits the vibe. It features a colorful comic book style illustration of a man playing a piano while a woman leans in next to a jar of cash.
It’s amazing how a painful breakup was turned into something this grand. Taking a gamble on a full orchestra paid off for an independent project. I highly recommend taking some time to dive into the previous releases from Reetoxa to see how the project evolved.
