Dash House – “Talk About It”

Dash House has been quietly building something worth your time. “Talk About It” is the third single from this Texas-based project, and it might be the most fully realized thing Dash Williams has put out so far.

The song has a really satisfying energy right from the start. Driving drums and a distorted bass line create a momentum that pulls you forward, and a floating synth lead in the intro gives it this almost woozy quality that contrasts nicely with how propulsive the rest of the track is. It recalls the heavier, bass-forward side of Phoenix without feeling like a copy of anything. You can also hear flickers of Dayglow in the way the pre-chorus softens before the song opens back up, and some of the guitar work has that Strokes quality where it sounds effortless but is actually doing a lot of work.

The lyrical setup is simple and specific; one partner picks a fight in the other’s defense, it backfires, and now neither of them wants to be the first to say anything. A late-stage production tweak, adding a halftime feel to the final chorus, gives the track a dynamic lift that it really needed. It’s the kind of detail that makes a good song feel finished.

Personally, I think this is his best one yet, and I’m glad he didn’t scrap it when he almost did. Go back and listen to “Vitamins” and “Better Half Of Life” too. They’re worth your time. Follow Dash House wherever you stream music.
