Santi Forget – “North Star”

“North Star” by the rising artist Santi Forget has that easy, relaxed pull from the start, with smooth vocals, a bit of indie edge, acoustic guitar, and live piano giving it a warm, lived-in sound. And her voice is a piece of art that can easily stick in your head. The 90s touch comes through in a way that feels natural, not forced, and it makes the whole track easy to settle into.

I really enjoyed how specific the song is about Toronto. A lot of artists talk about hometown pride in broad terms, but this one gets into the everyday details that make a place feel real. The mentions of thrifting, antiques, restaurants, speakeasies, art galleries, changing seasons, and bike lanes give the track personality. When I first pressed the play button, I was stunned by the vocal performance and the clean production.

That local focus also gives the song more heart. It sounds relaxed enough for a late-night drive. You can hear the pride in the way the city is described, and that gives the track a welcoming, familiar quality. It is nostalgic in a grounded way, which made it easy for me to connect with. It’s safe to say it’s one of the best songs I have written about this month so far.

“North Star” is a really enjoyable listen, and I would absolutely go back to it. Check out the artist’s previous releases, and make sure to follow them too. Have you been keeping up with North Star?
