The New Citizen Kane – “LIQUID.LATEX.DISCO.DADDY.”

The New Citizen Kane puts out “LIQUID. LATEX. DISCO. DADDY.” as part of this ongoing DISCO DADDY run, and it’s a pretty clear shift from the brighter stuff that came before. This one sits in a darker, more late-night lane, and it sticks to that mood the whole way through.

The first thing that got me was how locked-in the groove is. It just keeps moving, steady and a bit hypnotic, like something you’d hear deep into a night out when the room’s half-lit and nobody’s really checking the time anymore. That 90s club influence is there, but it doesn’t feel like a throwback for the sake of it.

You can also hear the connection between Kane and Red Man Runs. There’s a kind of ease in how everything fits. It sounds like two people who’ve been working together long enough to know when to push and when to leave things alone. My favorites are “Killer Charisma” and “Causing A Commotion”.

I also liked how this release reshapes older material into something that actually stands on its own. It doesn’t come off like a simple rework. It feels more like building a different version of the same world, just with the lights turned down and the edges a bit rougher . It’s not instant, give it a couple listens and it starts to click.

If you’re into that deeper, after-hours kind of sound, this one’s worth your time. Keep up with The New Citizen Kane on social media this year, there’s clearly more on the way.
