Tita Nzebi – “Reminiscence”
Tita Nzebi’s album “Reminiscence” is her newest release, and it brings together everything that defines her as an artist. Born in Mbigou in Gabon and now working between continents, she has built a career that connects her roots with the wider world. She continues to sing mainly in the Nzebi language, holding firmly to her heritage while working on an international level.
The album was recorded in studios in Paris and mixed at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, and you can hear the care that went into it. The title track features the cithare played by Seth Adiahénot Tetey, alongside guitars from Sec and Leny Bidens, as well as musicians from Congo. The arrangements feel full but never overwhelming, and everything sounds intentional and each song focuses on something meaningful. On “Etc.”, she reflects on the example adults set for children. “BA’ATE” shares a metaphor from her mother, comparing humans to calabashes that collide without breaking. “NZEMBI” brings in violin and cello and offers a quiet moment centered on spirituality. With “31 AOÛT”, she addresses silence after tragedy with seriousness and respect.
“Reminiscence” holds onto dignity, memory, and freedom while staying deeply connected to Gabonese identity. It sounds thoughtful without trying too hard, and it stays honest from start to finish.
