GUNMOLL – “Kill Your Darlings”
GUNMOLL’s debut album Kill Your Darlings introduces a band with a strong identity right from the start. Founded by Jolien Grünberg and Bram Bol, the group mixes surf inspired rock, Eastern influences, and sharp pop hooks into something that feels vivid and cinematic without going over the top.
The album presents twelve scenes from the life of a gunmoll, a female accomplice to a gangster who hides behind different masks. It doesn’t unfold in a straight line. You get moments, flashes, and confrontations that slowly shape who she is. The record opens in the middle of chaos with “Chasin,” built on pure adrenaline. “Tata’s Lie” looks at the loss of childhood innocence, while “Fuck Everything Up” and “Bitterness” bring conflict to the surface. The closing track “Joan” shifts into a more tender space and leaves a lasting impression.
The band pulls in Balkan elements tied to Jolien’s Romanian heritage while keeping a powerful alternative rock foundation. Wild riffs, deep grooves, and melodies that stick give the album drive. There is dark humour in the mix, and the songs have a physical energy that would easily translate to the stage.
Kill Your Darlings feels confident and fully formed. Follow GUNMOLL on social media to keep up with what they release next this year.
