Siren Section – “Separation Team”

Siren Section returns with Separation Team, their first full-length album in more than eight years. It’s clear this record took time to come together, and that patience shows in how carefully everything is put in place. Nothing here is trying to grab you right away. It unfolds slowly and asks you to stay with it.

James Cumberland and John Dowling have a long shared history, and you can hear that familiarity in how the album moves and my favorite tracks are “FLINCH”, “BULLET TRAIN”, and “SOME OF THIS MEANS EVERYTHING”. The sounds feel deliberate and controlled, even when things get dense. The album circles around ideas of breakdown and repair, whether that’s emotional or tied to larger systems falling apart, and each time you listen to the album, you will find youself want to hear it again and again. It gets better after each listen. And make sure to check out other work like “Glass Cannon” and “Focus”.

Separation Team works best when you spend real time with it and let it reveal itself at its own pace. If that sounds like your thing, follow Siren Section on social media to keep up with what they’re releasing this year.
