Thomas O’Shea – “Generation Z”
Thomas O’Shea’s debut album Generation Z takes a real, sometimes uncomfortable look at what it’s like to grow up in the world right now. He started the project right after finishing college, handling all the writing, recording, and production on his own, and finished it at Abbey Road. It’s the kind of album that clearly went through a lot of edits, and it shows in how focused everything feels. My favorite tracks are “Ain’t Gonna Stop’, “Internet”, and “Generation Z”.
Each track digs into different parts of being part of this generation. The endless internet noise, the messiness of dating, mental health, and the feeling that everything is constantly changing fast, and there are songs that deal with heartbreak, and they hit in a way that doesn’t feel overdone. He’s clearly writing from experience. The sound is rooted in pop but touches a bunch of styles like hip hop, R&B, and EDM, and you can tell he’s been making music for a long time. It’s not trying to be perfect or polished in a fake way. It’s direct and personal.
