Deepwise – “Slow Down”
Deepwise is a rapper, singer, and producer from Las Vegas who grew up in Salt Lake City around music his whole life. He mixes old-school hip-hop with video game sounds and electronic elements, and his new single “Slow Down” shows off that range pretty well.
The track has melodic singing over a chill-phonk piano, and the trap drums give it enough energy to keep you interested without killing the relaxed feel. There are some Latin rhythms in there too that make the whole thing more interesting to listen to. Deepwise gets introspective with his writing here, and he switches between singing and rapping in a way that actually works instead of feeling awkward.
He comes from a family of musicians and pulls from jazz, funk, and electronic music, so “Slow Down” has a lot going on but still hangs together as one complete idea. You can put it on while you’re doing something else or really sit with it and pay attention – either way it holds up.
