West Wickhams – “Sakura”
West Wickhams have a new EP out titled Sakura, and it’s worth spending time with, and the duo Jon Othello and Elle Flores keep doing their own thing, and this release feels like a continuation of the world they’ve been building. It’s made up of five tracks, all of which stick to that lo-fi, slightly off-kilter sound they’ve been leaning into for a while now.
The opener “Up to the Old Tricks” sets the tone in a way that pulls you in right away. “Ice Block” and “As the Camera Shuts” follow and keep things steady without feeling repetitive. “EQ The Viper” has a sharper feel to it, and “Save Yourselves” closes it out without any big shifts or dramatic turns. Nothing here feels like it’s trying to go viral. It all sounds like music made for its own sake. The title Sakura ties back to the idea of cherry blossoms and how quickly things come and go, that idea fits here. The EP doesn’t drag anything out. It shows up, makes its point, and leaves.
You can get the CD version with a few extras on Bandcamp, and it’s streaming too. Give them a follow to stay updated on whatever else they put out in 2025.
