MUDD SHOVEL – “Little White Hair”

Cavan’s mudd•shovel just released their debut album Little White Hair, and I’ve got to say, this is a strong first full-length from the Irish trio. Shawn Hicks handles guitar and vocals, Garreth Tackney is on bass and production, and David Mulligan is behind the drums. Together they’ve created nine tracks that hit hard and don’t hold back.

“Over the Line” kicks things off with a riff-heavy celebration of triumph that immediately grabs your attention and to be honest, it’s my favorite. While “Third Time Today” goes in a totally unexpected direction, weaving folklore about fairies into a warning you won’t forget. “Deep Fried Soul” gets real about addiction in all its forms, and “Pity Party” has zero time for people who drain your energy.

“Heading Home” captures that bittersweet feeling of going back to where you grew up, while “Don’t Drink the Water” looks at how temptation slowly pulls you in. The title track “Little White Hair” sits with the loneliness of isolation, and “Cupid Sparrow” picks up the pace with its dance-rock edge. “No Further” finishes the record by reflecting on leaving behind people who aren’t growing with you.

Little White Hair was released just two days ago, and they’re doing a launch show on December 27th at Benny’s Live Venue in Bailieborough. Check out their earlier stuff too. Follow mudd•shovel on social media to stay in the loop with new releases and shows.
