Karen Salicath Jamali – “Wings of Gabriel”

Good Sunday morning! Karen Salicath Jamali has a new album out, Wings of Gabriel, and I have to say this one surprised me. The 11-track piano album has an interesting backstory. Karen wrote every piece from her dreams over the past year, then recorded them early in the morning on her Golden Age Steinway piano. Not exactly the usual way most artists work, and you can tell when you listen to it.

The album breaks down into three sections, or wings. The first one is gentle and tender, the second dives into compassion and inner peace, and the third gets more mysterious and open-ended, and each part has a different vibe, but they all have this personal, intimate quality to them. There is many track that need your full attention, but the ones that grabbed my attention are “Angel Gabriels Grace”, “Angel Gabriels Whisper”, and “Wings of Gabriel, Pt. 1”.

I like how Karen plays the piano here. Her touch is soft but deliberate, and the pieces have a calming effect that works well when you need some quiet time away from everything else. Maria Triana mastered the album. She’s worked with Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, and Whitney Houston, so the sound quality is top-notch.

If you love this album as much as I did, look into Karen’s other work. She’s put out eight albums already, so there’s plenty to discover. Follow her on social media to stay in the loop with her new releases.
