Highroad No. 28 – “Ache”

Highroad No. 28’s new single, “Ache”, is a shift in the right direction and if you’ve been following them, you’ll notice this one’s heavier and a lot moodier than their older stuff. It still has that emotional edge they’ve always had, but now it comes through in a more focused way, and they’re clearly heading into a new phase with this release.

The song is part of their next album, The Will to Endure, and you can tell they’re digging deeper. It has this slow, tense energy that builds without trying to be big for no reason and the bass lines are thick and really set the tone, while the guitars bring in a cinematic kind of mood. You can tell they took their time with this one. Nothing feels rushed or thrown in, everything fits.

They recorded it at Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne and worked with James Taplin on the mix. It sounds tight but not too polished. It feels more like a band that’s figured out what they want to say and how to say it. If you’re curious where they’re going with the new album, “Ache” is a solid place to start. Definitely check it out and follow Highroad No. 28 on Instagram or Spotify so you don’t miss what’s next in 2025.
